What is the Difference Between DVD-R and DVD+R Discs

I won't get technical here in explaining the differences between DVD-R and DVD+R. I am sure you see them in stores like Best Buy and wonder which type you will need – or which type is best suited – for copying your DVD movies.

First of all please understand that there is are no physical difference between DVD-R and DVD+R discs.  There are technical differences, however.

DVD+R/+RW lets you

  • Instantly eject without having to wait for finalized formatting.
  • Record one DVD disc partially on PC and partially on television.
  • Simultaneously record on already-formatted portions of the same disc while the disc is being formatted.
  • Edit filenames, movie and song titles, and playlists.

DVD+R/+RE are 100% compatibility with all other DVD players, while still enjoying these extra recording features.

DVD+R/+RW disc are functionally more superior than DVD-R/-RW discs. You will not see any differences in video and audio quality.

But here is the catch. You must endure that your DVD burner can handle DVD+R/+RW discs. If so, purchase the DVD+r/+RW to copy your DVD movies.

Don't feel cheated if your DVD Burner does not handle the DVD+R/+RW discs. Don't sweat it.

On your next DVD Burner upgrade, just purchase a DVD Burner that handles both the DVD-R/-RW and DVD+R/+RW discs.
